Our Background
The Edith Academy is founded by a science communicator who is an expert in Public Science Outreach— the practice of making scientific findings accessible, understandable, and interesting to the general public.
Our founder and CEO, Crystal R Slane, PhD, received her PhD studying human memory at the University of Virginia. Dr. Slane has worked across two universities, a biobehavioral health lab in a hospital, and a public science museum studying topics related to the human mind. She holds degrees in neuroscience and psychology, and has spent over a decade researching how humans learn, remember, and make decisions.
Dr. Slane specializes in adapting complex content to fit a variety of audiences and applications, and she has used this background in public science outreach and neuroscience to create a unique take on lifelong learning that is designed specifically for individuals in retirement and assisted living communities.
